Breaking the Zone: Timing, Spacing, and Decision Making
July 06, 2026
Session Overview
Ryann Neushul breaks down both sides of zone play through film, focusing on timing, spacing, decision making, and the body mechanics that make a zone work. Attackers learn to look like a threat, drive to occupy defenders, and move the ball or enter to the center to stretch a 2- or 3-player zone. Defenders learn to find the ball, stay flat, cover horizontal distance by moving over their hips, move at shooters, and slide together in 4-5 and 3-4-5 structures. The result is a practical guide to reading and breaking down zone possessions.
