Half Court Defense: Goalie Positioning and Protecting the Cage
Session Overview
This session connects goalie positioning with the work of the five field defenders in front of the cage. It breaks down how goalies read the ball, understand shot lanes, and protect the cage by working with the shot blockers instead of playing as an isolated last line. Goalies will get a clearer sense of angles, cross-cage responsibility, near-side discipline, and communication with defenders. Field players will also benefit because the session shows how better blocks and cleaner defensive structure make the goalie’s job dramatically easier.

Adrian Weinberg
Goalie
Adrian Weinberg is an Olympic bronze medalist and the starting goalkeeper for Team USA Men’s Water Polo. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he was named Most Valuable Goalkeeper of the tournament and set the record for the most saves in Olympic history (98). He played collegiately at the University of California at Berkeley (CAL), where he was a three-time NCAA National Champion. Adrian currently plays professionally for Panathinaikos in Greece while training toward the 2028 Summer Olympics. Through his training sessions, Adrian focuses on helping athletes develop elite goalkeeper technique, game awareness, and the mindset required to compete at the highest level of water polo.
